GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. ” An autopsy is planned on the body of a woman found on an embankment along the Main Line Grand Valley Canal in Grand Junction.

The discovery Tuesday came a few hours after an 81-year-old dementia patient was reported missing.

Police say Afton Worley was last seen at home on Saturday. She was reported as a missing person Tuesday morning when the front door of her home was found open and she could not be located.

Authorities, however, could not confirm whether the body discovered Tuesday night was Worley’s.

Grand Junction police Sgt. Scott Stoneburner says the woman’s identity would not be positively confirmed until at least Wednesday, following an autopsy and identification by family members.
