Bobby A. Cook

Aspen, CO ColoradoBobby Archdale Cook lost his battle with cancer Friday, March 30, at his home in Carbondale.

He was born Nov. 20, 1921, to Alva and Maybelle Cook in Eureka, Kan.Known as “Papa” to a few and “Bob” to others, he moved to this area in 1964 with his wife, Mary. They went square-dancing, among other activities, as they grew to know people and made many friends. Bob worked as a skilled carpenter and contractor until he retired, then worked a paper route until just the past few years.

His hobbies included painting, collecting John Wayne movies and taking care of his plants, for which he had a “green thumb.” He loved children, but none compared to his own grandchildren, whom he lived for the most.

Bob served in the army during World War II, where he earned a Bronze Star for his work with the new FM radio near the front lines. We applaud Bob for his service to our country, but also for the great battle that was unfortunately lost to cancer. He fought strong and hard.Bob is survived by one brother, Ronald Cook of Ellensburg, Wash.; one son, David M. Cook of Glenwood Springs; three grandchildren, John M. Cook, Matthew Archdale Cook and Rachel L. Cook, also of Glenwood Springs; and numerous nieces and nephews. The funeral service will take place at Farnum-Holt Funeral Home in Glenwood Springs at 1 p.m. Wednesday, April 4.
