Blues and barbecue on the KDNK menu

Barbecue and blues. Or, if you will, Finger lickin’ and guitar pickin.’

Carbondale public radio station KDNK capitalizes on the combo for its Saturday Blues and BBQ Fest on the town’s main drag.

Cuban-born bluesman Eddie Turner and local rock outfit Seventh Hour have been tabbed to provide musical accompaniment. Turner, who played Telluride’s Blues and Brews Fest last year, and will bring his band and his brand of scorching blues.



New this year is a Slow Food Grand BBQ Tasting with regional organic meats, fine sauces, grilled peaches and other locally harvested fare at the Village Smithy from 4 to 7 p.m.

Chef Jaimie Theirot, owner and chef of Smoke, Willits’ up-and-coming barbecue joint, will pair food and beer for a feast of the palate.




While patrons are knocking back Tommy Knocker brews, they can take in cooking demos from chef Eugenia Bone, as well as Rikki McKenna and other local culinary artists.

The event starts at 3 p.m. with cooking demonstrations. Seventh Hour performs at 5 p.m. and Turner takes the stage at 6:30 p.m. The demos and music are free.
