Blocked views? Too bad

VAIL ” A judge has dismissed a lawsuit brought by residents of the Montaneros condos over blocked views.

The lawsuit centered around the proposal for the renovation of the Lion Square North building, which is just south of Montaneros in Lionshead, which is part of Vail.

The Montaneros residents sued the town of Vail, the Vail Town Council, the Lion Square North Condo Association and Viele Development.

The renovation includes two new 78-foot towers, nine new condos, underground parking, a new store and a gym.

The Montaneros Condominium Association said the redeveloped building would be too close to the Montaneros, blocking views and sunlight, according to its complaint filed last year.

On June 27, District Judge R. Thomas Moorhead ruled in favor of Lion Square North and Viele Development.

In April, Moorhead upheld the town’s approval of Lion Square North.

“We’re obviously thrilled and looking forward to moving forward,” said David Viele of Viele Development. “It was the result that we expected, but we were thrilled it went our way.”

Counterclaims by Lion Square North and Viele Development against Montaneros are still pending, Viele said.

Construction could start this fall and would last 16 to 18 months, Viele said.
