Billie Marie Shafer

Billie M. Shafer passed away unexpectedly at her home in Carbondale on July 21, 2012.

Billie moved to Colorado in the early 1970s and to Aspen in 1975, where she was the Avis girl at the old Holiday Inn. In 1979, Billie met Wayne Griffin and they became partners.

Billie was most at home helping other people. She was the first airport hostess at the Aspen-Pitkin County Airport and at the Aspen Chamber kiosk on the mall during the summer months, the Wheeler Opera house information desk and finally back to the airport for winter.

Billie loved people, but most of all she loved her kitty cats and taking care of her many houseplants.

Billie is survived by her husband, Wayne Griffin; brothers W. Ray Baker of Brea, Calif., Wesley Baker of Knoxville, Iowa and Danny Baker of Honolulu, Hawaii; and sisters Carli Hahn and Bonnie Northway of Oskaloosa, Iowa.

A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. on Aug. 4 at The Orchard in Carbondale. Please send donations in lieu of flowers to the Harmony Foundation, P.O. Box 1989, Estes Park, CO 80517 – memory of Billie Shafer.
