Bill Clinton to make Ideas Festival appearance
July 8, 2005
Bill Clinton will make an appearance at 7 p.m. tonight at Harris Hall in an hour-long discussion with Aspen Institute President Walter Issacson.
Clinton is a last-minute addition to the Aspen Ideas Festival’s roster of high-profile speakers, but his appearance will not be open to the general public.
Rumors of the former president’s impending visit have been floating around town and the Institute for more than a week. They were confirmed today in The Aspen Times.
The stage at Harris Hall had been scheduled tonight for a discussion between Isaacson and author Toni Morrison as part of the festival. Morrison will take the stage at about 8:15.
The Institute is setting up a video feed to Paepcke Auditorium to handle the expected overflow crowd of speakers and festival passholders. While Clinton’s appearance is not open to the public, it will be broadcast at a later date on both GrassRoots TV (channel 12) and KAJX FM.
Clinton is joining his wife in Aspen for the weekend. New York Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton is scheduled to speak Sunday at 9 a.m. at Harris Hall as part of the Ideas Festival. The Clintons are also expected to appear Sunday at a Democratic Party fund-raiser at the Red Mountain home of Michael Goldberg.
