Bike school unveiled at Aspen Velo

There is a new bicycling school at Aspen Velo this summer.

Wheels of Aspen, owned and directed by Marisa Farland, was founded to celebrate the love and heritage of bicycles.

The purpose of the school is to provide a casual, yet exciting, atmosphere for all levels of riders, with an emphasis on kids and women and a focus on cycling etiquette, skills, fitness and safety.

Sprockets, the kids cycling camp, will use a structured program to teach children cycling skills in a fun and safe environment according to Farland.

Sprockets will meet Mondays and Wednesdays from 9 a.m.-12 p.m. starting June 14 and running through Aug. 24.

Times and days will be added as needed. Teen Kranksters The teen cycling group, Kranksters, will meet weekly on Thursdays for three hours to ride and learn cycling skills, maintenance and safety, with an emphasis on racing.

The Kranksters program will run from June 18 to Aug. 20 and will be led by top local junior racer Nathan Waldron.

Peddlepushers is a ladies cycling program that will meet for three hours each week to ride and learn cycling skills, basic maintenance and safety in a fun and encouraging environment, Farland said. Road, mountain biking Both road and mountain biking will be covered. Days and times will be added as needed.

In addition, Wheels of Aspen will be hosting other special events and clinics throughout the summer. All rides will begin and end at the Aspen Velo parking lot.

Participants must be signed up 24 hours in advance.
