Better hop to it

Aspen Times writer

Dear Editor:

The Easter Bunny and Big Bird are coming early to Aspen. You can meet these special fun characters on Sunday, April 4, in the Pitkin County Library Courtyard Plaza from 10:30 a.m. to 3 p.m.

The Easter Egg Hunts are at 12:30 and 1:30 p.m. Bring your Easter basket and wear your bunny suit. This special event may very well be the last special event in the beautiful grass pedestrian-only plaza.

As part of the “visitor center deal” that the city is making with the developer, the developer will be allowed to take out the trees, 100-year- old lilacs and open space in the historic overlay district on Galena and Main and replace the corner with a 40-foot free-market building with zero setbacks.

The developer will also be allowed to take out the trees and grass on the north side of the library pedestrian plaza and replace the trees with a minimum of 25 feet of asphalt for 10 spaces of parking for city officials.

So grab your Easter baskets and bunny suits and hop on over to the library plaza before the trees and grass in the plaza are gone forever. The public hearing is April 12 at 5 p.m. in City Hall.
