Best and worst of times
As an Aspenite, these are the best of times and these are the worst of times. I have been a full time resident of Aspen for the last five years and would like to endorse Marilyn Marks as mayor for the following reasons:
We are facing obstacles unique to Aspen that need to be addressed in an unemotional manner. There is no place for ego and no matter how unfavorable a decision may be it will need to be made. Now is a time to analyze what has taken place over the last two years and to be honest about the unprofessional, non-business approach to managing our town that has taken place. Burlingame, the purchase of BMC, a lack of consideration to property owners, no recognition to the city of Aspen as a world icon and even less awareness of the needs of our citizens has been unacceptable.
Aspen requires a leadership that addresses the needs of its citizens whether they are permanent residents or part time residents. Any individual who pays taxes in our city needs to be protected and a balance needs to be created. Aspen is unique, yet its problems are universal. Controlled growth, quality of life, protection of its population, retail rejuvenation, affordable and economically viable housing, reasonable construction standards, uncomplicated rules and regulations are but a few of Aspen’s concerns.
I believe that Marilyn Marks will be unemotional, fair. Progressive, compassionate, business-oriented and will balance needs with action. She will bring a new and refreshing approach to government that has been lacking. The spirit of Aspen will be revitalized and a cooperative approach to government will be revisited.
