Beds should stay affordable
Dear Editor:
I can’t make the meeting today (Sept. 24) because of illness, but I’ll watch on TV.
David Perry’s quest for “hot beds” at the base of 1A will NEVER replace the affordable lodging properties at the base, nor any of the others that have been erased over the years. There simply are far too few affordable accommodations in Aspen to again ever attract more than a handful of nonaffluent skiers. We are development-destined, and any opportunity to return to the place we and our guests were originally attracted to are quickly disappearing.
Your council tasks are immense, and I am grateful that each of you seems so concerned. We cannot allow all decisions to be money-driven. And, at present, development in Aspen is nauseating.
I appreciate that you seem to resist the steam rollers out there, and offer my most profound support.
