Bear put down after it scratches Aspen woman
September 1, 2009
ASPEN – A young bear was tranquilized Monday afternoon on Aspen’s east side after the animal scratched a woman while she dozed on her back patio.
The woman, a McSkimming Road resident, suffered a cut to her left shin, but did not require medical attention.
The Colorado Division of Wildlife was summoned to tranquilize the animal, which had climbed up an aspen tree. Officers held a tarp in the hopes of catching the bear when it fell, but the bear missed the tarp. It was to be euthanized because of its aggressive behavior.
