Be like Chiara " make a difference

Dear Editor:

The last thing I heard before going under the knife for back surgery not too long ago was someone telling me to count backward from 10, 9 … the first thing I heard as I was waking up was a soft voice, saying “Hi, Kim, I just stopped by to see how you are doing and if you need anything.” It was Chiara Giammarrusco. She got me some water and tucked the covers around me. Seeing that I was comfortable, she quietly left my hospital room. There are a few holes in the first 24 hours after my surgery, but Chiara’s visit will always remain.

The NBC Nightly News closes their broadcast each evening with a section called, “Making a Difference.” It takes a look at the people and towns across America who are making a difference for people during this difficult time in our history. Chiara made a difference in my life and so many with the generous gift of her time. Always willing to do anything needed, she was a blessing at the Aspen Valley Ski/Snowboard Club.

I am so lucky to have known Chiara. She will be sorely missed. In her honor, I ask everyone to find something to do to make a difference everyday. It doesn’t have to be time-consuming or cost any money. Kindness and respect toward everyone goes a long way.
