Base2 losing in early returns

Early election returns show Aspen voters defeating the Base2 Lodge and supporting a tax increase for the school district, a tax extension for the hospital, and a near dead-heat over the future of City Hall.

Early returns for Question 2A, the most contentious local election item, shows 1,427 votes against Base2 and 728 for it.

The Aspen School District tax is winning by a wide margin, with 2,369 in favor and 1,180 against. The hospital mil levy extension also is enjoying a favorable lead, with 2,835 votes cast in support and 1,147 against.

Sandra Peirce (1,448 votes) and Sheila Wills (1,335) are the early leaders in the school board race.

Pitkin County's question to improve broadband service appears poised to win, with 3,996 in favor and 364 against.

City Question 1A, an advisory question that asks about the future of City Hall (the old Armory Building), has 1,021 favoring community use and 1,044 wanting it to remain city offices.
