Basalt workshop to focus on wildfires
A wildfire preparedness workshop for Roaring Fork Valley homeowners will be offered from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, May 21, at the Basalt Fire Department station in El Jebel.
Local and regional fire experts will provide information to homeowners on steps they can take to protect themselves in case of a forest fire. The workshop will cover removing fuels from around a house, home evacuation plans, fuel breaks and suppressing wildfires, and understanding forest ecosystems in relation to wildfires.
The event is being sponsored by the Colorado State Forest Service, Basalt Fire Department, town of Basalt and Eagle County. The fire station is located at 1089 JW Drive.

There is a lot of pent up energy among hikers and bikers to get into the high country, but snow fields, avalanche debris and high stream crossings are presenting challenges later than usual. Forest rangers with the Aspen-Sopris District provide trail condition reports that are updated each week so hikers and backpackers aren’t caught unaware.
