Basalt teams win top honors in youth basketball tourney

Basalt third- and fourth-grade basketball teams collected top honors recently in the Valley Youth Basketball League.

Basalt’s purple team pulled ahead of Basalt’s gold team for a 22-16 victory in the championship.

The league included teams from Aspen to Glenwood Springs.

Basalt purple team players are Andrew Schlepp, Calum Inglis, Elias Santiago, George Mercatoris, Joaquin Sandoval, Kurt Kowar Luke Geiser, Owen Lindt, Parker Sims and Taylor Hays.

Coaches are Mikey Geiser and Matt Inglis.

Basalt gold team players are Alejandro Alvarez, Chase Tesoro, Dylan Johnston, Elias Schendler, Hayes Gatlin, Jared Tennenbaum, Jasiel Martinez, Noah Johnston, Sebastian Oliver, William Jones and Zealand Lane. Coaches are Jeff Gatlin and Chris Lane.
