Basalt teacher earns award

A Basalt High School teacher has received a statewide award for her efforts to teach English to speakers of other languages.

Leticia Ingram received the Virginia French Allen Award for Excellence in Teaching. The award was given by the group Colorado Teachers of English to Speakers of Other Languages. The organization will present the award to Ingram at a Nov. 14 convention in Denver.

Ingram is an English Language Development teacher and coordinator of Basalt High School’s English Language Development program.



Basalt High School Principal David Schmid nominated Ingram for the award.

“Leticia is an outstanding teacher with a strong belief that all students can learn at high levels, and she has very high expectations for herself and her students,” he said.
