Basalt schedules open houses on park plan

Basalt town government is hosting a series of meetings through August to discuss a possible ballot question on the issuance of bonds to acquire land and build a river park.

The meetings are being held to provide information and answer questions about the park design, the project costs and the bond issue financing and repayment proposal.

The Town Council hasn’t finalized the ballot language, but it is currently looking at a bond issue for $9.425 million. A portion of the funds would be used to buy 2.3 acres of property at the former Pan and Fork Mobile Home Park site. Some of the property would be added to the 3 acres the town already owns for a park. Another portion would be set aside for development.

The bulk of the funds would be used to pay for park improvements.

The bonds would be repaid through a combination of sales tax revenues and the extension of an existing property tax for additional years.

The open house schedule is as follows:

Thursday, 6 to 8 p.m. at Basalt Town Hall.

Saturday, 9 to noon at Basalt Town Hall.

Sunday, 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Basalt Sunday Market.

Aug. 25, 6 to 8 p.m., Basalt Town Hall.

Aug. 27, 9 a.m. to noon, Basalt Town Hall.

Aug. 28, 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., Basalt Sunday Market.
