Basalt residents can weigh in on new park

Aspen Times staff report
Aspen, CO Colorado

BASALT – Basalt residents are invited to an open house Monday to offer their thoughts on a proposal for the new Midland Park beside the library.

The meeting will be held from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. in the community room of the Basalt Regional Library. Refreshments will be served. Site tours will be offered beginning at 2:30 p.m. Participants should go to the library lobby.

Midland Park is between the library and the Roaring Fork River. It encompasses the existing skateboard park and the plan would convert the surrounding meadow and woods into more usable space. The amenities include a “story fort” that could be used by kids groups from the library. A path with benches is proposed along the river. Sculpture would be scattered throughout the site. The proposed plan keeps development to a minimum but features seating areas where people can spend time reading or simply enjoying the great outdoors.
