Basalt police arrest alleged burglar

Aspen Times Staff Report
Aspen, CO Colorado

BASALT ” A Basalt man was arrested Thursday for a burglary that yielded him nothing but his image on a surveillance system’s video tape, according to police.

Armando Ville Esparza, 18, of the Pan and Fork Mobile Home Park, was arrested on a warrant after investigation of Nov. 29 break-in at the Taqueria el Nopal restaurant. Sgt. Stu Curry said the tape showed a man identified as Ville Esparza searching for money before giving up and fleeing. “They have a really loud alarm,” Curry said.

The suspect apparently used a rock or some other heavy object to smash a window at the restaurant close to midnight. He was charged with criminal mischief for the damage as well as second-degree burglary.

Curry said he arrested the same man last year, when he was a juvenile, for a break-in at El Horizonte Restaurant in Basalt. That burglary yielded the man a six-pack of beer.
