Basalt launches free ride service
A service that provides free, on-demand rides in Basalt made its debut Monday.
Basalt Connect will operate between 6 and 9 a.m. and 3 to 10 p.m. daily in February, March and April. There will be no service in May, October and November. The hours will be expanded to 6 a.m. to 10 p.m. on weekends June through September.
The operator is urging people to download Basalt Connect from the app store on a smart phone and request a ride with a tap of a button.
Rides will be provided between Willits and old town Basalt, along with neighborhoods within the town boundaries.
The service will be provided by one transit van with capacity for 12 riders and an eight-passenger van that can accommodate a wheelchair.
The service was made possible through a partnership between the town of Basalt and Roaring Fork Transportation Authority. They each contributed about $190,000 for the initial year of service.
Mother Nature — and some unfortunate training injuries — completely changed the vibe around the women’s halfpipe skiing final on Saturday at X Games Aspen.
