Despite the common phrase that “Earth Day is every day,” Basalt will be hosting an Earth Day celebration themed “Our Planet Our Power” on Tuesday, April 22, in Basalt River Park, according to a press release.
The celebration will start at 6 p.m. following a Basalt Elementary School parade at 2:30 p.m. and live music by local band 8th Street Bus Stop from 4-6 p.m. Basalt hopes to encourage its residents and commuters to use alternative transportation and clean energy for power with the goal of reducing greenhouse gas emissions.
Activities and amenities will include guest speakers and solar, wind power, and electric car demos. There will also be free compost bin, magnet, and tree sapling giveaways, along with kids crafts, Earth-friendly fun and games, local vendors, and vegan food and drinks.
The event is free and open to the public. Attendees are asked to walk, bike, use Basalt Connect, or ride the Roaring Fork Transportation Authority bus to get to the event.
