Basalt has settled with all but 6 Pan and Fork families

The town of Basalt has negotiated financial settlements for relocation with occupants of all but five or six of the residences in Pan and Fork Mobile Home Park, according to Town Manager Mike Scanlon.

Deals have either been reached or they are pending with occupants of 29 or 30 residences, Scanlon said Friday. He will try to determine this week which households want to be represented by Workers for Justice and Diversity in Basalt and which want to negotiate as individuals. The “Workers” group was formed by nine families to provide a unified voice.

Scanlon estimated the town has assisted 110 families or extended family groups so far. There were 35 mobile homes in the park.

The money that has been paid or is obligated to be paid totals $650,000, he said. The town is using a formula to reach a financial settlement designed to help with a deposit on new apartments that are rented or down payments on new homes that are purchased.

Roughly 10 of the mobile homes were moved out of the Pan and Fork to other sites. A couple of trailers were moved by homeowners. Others were acquired by landowners who intend to relocate the trailers elsewhere and rent them out, according to Scanlon. A handful of the trailers were relocated to Meredith, a settlement in the Fryingpan Valley, he said.
