Basalt church expansion on hold

Aspen Times Staff Report
Aspen, CO Colorado

BASALT ” St. Vincent Catholic Church in Basalt is delaying plans for expansion because of economic conditions.

The church asked the town government to extend its first-round approval for an 8,240-square-foot expansion for another year. The church received the first of three approvals it needs last year. Ted Guy, a consultant for the parish, wrote in a letter that the church isn’t ready to seek the second-round approval.

“At this time, the church has decided that embarking on a multi-year fundraising effort is not appropriate or sensitive to their members,” Guy wrote. The letter said the parish will likely proceed with the project once the economy improves.

The Basalt Town Council approved the request 4-0 on Tuesday night. Three members were absent.
