Bands will battle in Basalt on May 9

The Jazz Aspen Snowmass Band Battle ’15 returns to Basalt from 1 to 5 p.m. Saturday, May 9, at Lions Park. In the event of rain, the event will be moved to Riverside Grill.

At least 10 student bands from throughout the Roaring Fork Valley are scheduled to perform. The groups will play reggae, rock, jazz and more. The winning band will receive free recording time at Great Divide Recording Studios in Aspen, while the winning singer-songwriter will be offered a chance to play a live KSPN Kitchen Concert.

One of the event’s sponsors, Riverside Grill, will donate 10 percent of all proceeds from its revenue generated from 11:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday to JAS music education programming.

JAS Band Battle is sponsored by Alpine Bank, Alchemy Audio Visual Concert Systems, Aspen 82, Zapazoo, the town of Basalt and The Aspen Times. For more information, visit
