Bands play to help victims

Aspen Times Staff Report

Efforts around the valley to help out the earthquake victims in El Salvador are gaining steam.

A new local band will head up two shows this weekend that will combine fun with a serious cause. La Sonora Juvenil, which recently formed, will perform at 8:30 p.m. tonight and Sunday night at the El Jebel Community Center.

A surprise performance by a yet-to-be-named band will cap off the evening.

Tickets will be $20, and all money raised will go toward relief efforts. Members of the valley’s Salvadoran community and everyone else is invited to attend the nights of dancing. The money will help out survivors and their families.

People unable to attend the dance, but who want to help out, can bring donations of food, clothes, money, etc., to the Bible Church on Jan. 19, 20, 26 and 27. Call 948-7548, for more information. Financial donations should be made out to Concilio AYP District 8, tax i.d. number 4040038970.

Also, people wanting to donate to a relief can do so by depositing money in the Help El Salvador fund at any Alpine Bank in the Roaring Fork Valley. The savings account number is 1120902233.
