Backcountry experts speak in Aspen

ASPEN – An expert panel of local backcountry explorers, featuring Christy Mahon, Art Burrows, Michael Kennedy and Neal Beidleman, will share stories and host an interactive conversation in “Off Piste: Explore the Backside.”

The event will take place at 5:30 p.m. Tuesday at Aspen’s Limelight Lodge, 355 S. Monarch St. Tickets are $8 and available at the door. The Limelight Lodge happy hour includes $4 draft beers and $10 pizzas during the presentation.

Beidleman is an accomplished mountaineer who recently climbed Mount Everest with acclaimed Aspen skier Chris Davenport.

Burrows is a telemark pioneer, mountaineer and designer who has influenced outdoor product lines, including Black Diamond.

Kennedy is editor at Alpinist and former owner, editor and publisher of Climbing magazine. He has numerous first ascents around the world.

Mahon is the first woman to ski all the 14,00-foot peaks in Colorado.

The event is part of the Aspen Historical Society’s Time Travel Tuesday programming, which, according to the organization’s website, brings “history to life through interactive and educational presentations that feature knowledgeable speakers.”
