Back to winter in Aspen

Aspen Times staff report
Aspen, CO Colorado

ASPEN – Roaring Fork Valley residents awoke to varying amounts of snowfall Thursday morning from a winter storm that brought a drastic drop in temperatures after several days of spring weather.

Winter jackets, gloves and hats replaced shirt sleeves in Aspen, where a winter storm warning was set to expire at 6 p.m.

Another 3 to 5 inches was forecast in Aspen during the day Thursday and the National Weather Service was calling for 1 to 3 inches Thursday night, with lows of 10 to 20. There’s a freeze warning in effect in western Colorado, where fruit orchards and other crops are at risk, from midnight Thursday to 9 a.m. Friday.

Friday’s forecast for Aspen calls for snow showers and accumulations of 1 to 3 inches. The outlook doesn’t improve much for the weekend, either, at least for those who were hoping to get in a round of golf or a bike ride. The ski slopes have closed for the season.

There’s a 50 percent chance of snow showers Friday night, with lows of 15 to 25, and Saturday’s forecast calls for mostly cloudy skies with a 40 percent chance of snow showers and highs in the 30s. Sunday’s forecast calls for more of the same. The clouds are expected to linger through Tuesday, with a continuing chance for rain and snow showers.

The forecast for the lower valley also calls for snow showers this weekend.
