Back on track

Dear Editor:

Good news for track and other athletes at Aspen Middle School and Aspen High School! After years of neglect and poor maintenance decisions, the kids are going to get a new track.

Kudos to coach Chris Keleher and his track athletes over the past three years, who have done as well as they have training on this hazard, by far the worst track on the Western Slope.

Personally, I think the city of Aspen ought to pony up for at least of portion of the expenses to rehabilitate this community resource, given its performance in clearing snow from the track surface with a blade.

Thanks to Superintendent John Maloy and the Aspen school board for stepping up to put this facility on par with the many other components of our great school system. Maybe one of these days Aspen kids will know what it is like to hold a home track meet.
