“There is no greater pleasure than a boat ride,” declared the Aspen Daily Times on April 22, 1888.

“There is no exercise more exhilarating than a row on a still lake or flowing stream. A pleasure seeker will linger for hours in the bow of a boat watching the fish and the shadows in peaceful bliss. There is always fun on the waters. The great danger, too, of getting wet has a deep fascination for the fair lady as well as the brave lord. How fortunate indeed is Aspen that she possesses one of the finest bodies of water in the land, so near the city that a few minutes walk brings one to its shady banks! Hallam lakes are simply beautiful. They have always been a popular resort for the pleasure seekers and the run this season is unprecedented. The boats have all been fixed anew and made water tight. The grounds are being made more attractive and Mr. Schadler shows visitors every attention. Where could one spend a more pleasant hour than in a boat on the bosom of this jewel of the mountains?”
