AVH staffers aid hurricane victims

The staff and doctors at Aspen Valley Hospital have collected more than $10,700 in donations, with another $20,000 in pledges, for the victims of hurricanes Katrina and Rita along the Gulf Coast.AVH spokeswoman Ginny Dyche announced Wednesday that the donations, along with matching pledges of up to $10,000 from the hospital and the Aspen Valley Medical Foundation, will be tallied on Friday and sent to the American Red Cross for hurricane relief work.Dyche said the collections have been under way at the hospital since mid-September, two weeks after Katrina slammed into the Gulf Coast, killing hundreds and displacing thousands.
