Avalanche beacon training begins

Aspen Times Staff

Mountain Rescue Aspen is offering free avalanche beacon training twice a month, beginning Dec. 5.

Training sessions will take place in Rio Grande Park on the first Tuesday and the last Wednesday of each month through April 3.

Sessions begin at 6 p.m. and last one to two hours. Participants will receive instruction in beacon use and practice finding buried beacons.

Wear warm clothes and boots, and bring a headlamp or flashlight and a beacon if you have one. Afew beacons will be available for those who don’t have one.
