Attacks in a positive town

Dear Editor:

Every day I am encouraged and delighted by the growing number of steady and often spontaneous manifestations of support for a new Aspen Art Museum that are expressed directly to me and the museum staff. Affirmative, thoughtful, generous, tolerant and sustaining are all words I use to describe those who call Aspen home and their enthusiasm for how a new museum will enrich the lives of everyone here.

Recently published attacks on me and the volunteer leadership of the AAM, however, are unwarranted and unwelcome in a small community such as ours. Aspen has always thrived on healthy dialogue across a range of perspectives, and these letters, while difficult to read due to their hurtful inaccuracies and personal tone, remind me that they run counter to the prevailing manner in which most of us choose to interact with each other. This is a positive town no matter what a very few would have us believe.
