Aspen’s tripod

Dear Editor:As our current mayoral race heats up, it’s a perfect time to recognize Helen Klanderud for her many years of dedicated service to Aspen. In fact, although many of us (including me) have had disagreements with Helen about specific issues over the years, I believe that Helen was an excellent mayor. Sure, colorful terms have been thrown about like the “Klanderudization” of Aspen to describe our construction boom. However, the flip side of this coin is that our town thrived during Helen’s administration and Aspen remains one of the world’s premier destination resorts.I hope that whoever is elected Aspen’s next mayor will recognize and embrace what I like to call the “Aspen Tripod.” Sometimes, we become so engrossed by issues facing locals that it’s easy to forget that Aspen also benefits from the support of tourists and second-home owners. I believe that Helen understood the importance of each of these legs of the tripod. I hope that Tim, Mick, Torre or Bonnie will too. After all, the secret to releasing Aspen’s magic is to allow all the Aspen bunnies to live harmoniously in the same hat.Jerry BovinoAspen
