Aspen’s gain

Aspen Times writer

Dear Editor,I departed for home yesterday after a wonderful week in Aspen. I brought along to read in-flight the Aug. 10 issue of The Aspen Times. What a delightful surprise to discover the front page, lead story: “Philanthropist turns to the medical sector.”I knew Dick Butera decades ago when he was a Philadelphian and brought us the Philadelphia Freedoms and World Team Tennis. He was an innovator and leader then in our city, and, thanks to him, we were lucky to have Billie Jean King and Martina Navratilova (she was newly arrived in America) on our team in this original league. It pleases me that Dick’s generosity honors professionals in the fields of health care and education. These are hard-working and dedicated people who deserve special recognition.Fortunately for all of you, Philadelphia’s loss, when Dick Butera left our town, is Aspen’s gain. Congratulations, Richard Butera, and continued success!Julie CursonPhiladelphia
