Aspen’s Fourth of July schedule

ASPEN ” The Fourth of July action in Aspen begins early, with the traditional Boogie’s Diner Buddy 5, and ends Friday evening with pyrotechnics over Aspen Mountain.

In between is the traditional parade, a street dance, picnics and more.

The weather forecast for Friday in Aspen, by the way, bodes well for all of the outdoor fun. Highs in the 70s, sunny skies in the morning and a 20 percent chance of afternoon precipitation are expected.



The schedule:

8 a.m. ” Boogie’s Diner Buddy 5 Mile Race, benefiting The Buddy Program (which is celebrating its 35 anniversary, by the way). Register in advance at Boogie’s Diner for $40, or before the race on race day for $50.




9:15 a.m. ” One-mile Family Fun Walk starts in front of Paradise Bakery, followed by the kids’ 100-yard dash at 9:30 a.m.

10 a.m. ” Kids’ bicycle decorating at Paepcke Park, for kids riding in the parade.

10 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. ” Eighth annual “America’s Birthday Carnival.” The Early Learning Center’s kids’ carnival in Paepcke Park features games, a barbecue, silent auction, bake sale and Fourth of July souvenirs.

Noon ” Aspen’s traditional Fourth of July Parade takes place on Main Street.

1 p.m. ” Aspen Valley Ski and Snowboard Club’s 13th annual Community Picnic at Koch Park, featuring a barbecue, kids’ games, live entertainment and a beer garden.

1:30 p.m. ” Aspen Art Museum’s fourth annual Fourth of July picnic features complimentary food, family activities, the museum’s parade float and exhibitions by internationally renowned contemporary artists Aïda Ruilova and Friedrich Kunath inside the museum.

1:30 to 4:30 p.m. ” Aspen Highlands’ Fourth of July family barbecue with live music by the Double Diamond Band, clowns, face painters and more.

2 p.m. ” CANCELED: The Aspen Summer Skate Fourth of July exhibition at the Aspen Ice Garden has been called off (no skaters signed up to participate).

4 p.m. ” Fourth of July concert by the Aspen Music Festival Band at the Benedict Music Tent. Free.

8 to 10:30 p.m. ” Dancing In The Streets community dance/concert featuring the band Broadband, on the Mill Street/Cooper Avenue mall area.

9:15 p.m. ” Fireworks over Aspen Mountain, presented by the city of Aspen (weather permitting).
