Aspen wins again

Dear Editor:

Aspen’s Youth Football fifth/sixth grade team wins a big game versus Glenwood on a wet and wild field in Basalt. Aspen, anchored by the strong offensive line of Rylan McClain, Ryer Gardenswartz, Dylan Faraoni, Luke O’Callaghan, Max Coghlan and Matt Ferguson led Aspen to a 12-9 victory in the season finale.

J.J. Ready dominated the run game for Aspen in the first half before leaving the game with a knee injury. Tucker Beirne, Aspen’s quarterback, hit Matt Gregory on a 30-yard bomb that Gregory took all the way for Aspen’s first score, a 70-yard touchdown. Aspen’s second score came after a great defensive stand and a fumble recovery by Lincoln Keefe in the third quarter. Incredible receptions by Victor Robinson and Mak Grandy set the stage for Aspen’s next score, an acrobatic 20-yard flag pass caught by Henry Woodrow who then scampered another 15 yards for the score.

As the 2007 season comes to a close, both Aspen fifth/sixth grade teams head to the playoffs next week. Great thanks to the Aspen Elks Club, the Aspen Recreation Department and Ron Morehead for another amazing season.

Go Aspen.

Coach Dave Beirne
