Aspen weekend forecast a mix

ASPEN – Snow, rain and sun are all possibilities in Aspen this weekend, according to the National Weather Service.

The mixed climactic bag starts with mostly cloudy skies Friday night and Saturday. Snow showers are likely Saturday morning, with a chance of rain and snow showers in the afternoon, according to the weather service. Highs will be in the 40s.

Accumulation of about an inch of snow is possible Saturday at 8,000 feet and higher, says the weather service. (Aspen is at 7,900 feet.)

Mostly cloudy skies and a 40 percent chance of snow showers are forecast Saturday night, with lows in the 20s.

On Sunday, partly sunny skies and a 20 percent chance of snow showers are expected, with highs in the 30s, according to the weather service. Mostly cloudy skies and lows of 15 to 25 are forecast Sunday night.

Monday’s forecast calls for partly sunny skies with highs in the 40s, but a chance of snow in the afternoon.

In the lower valley, including Carbondale and Glenwood Springs, cloudy skies and rain showers are expected Saturday, with highs in the 50s.

Sunday’s forecast calls for mostly sunny skies with highs in the 40s.

Aspen man killed after motorcycle crash on Lower River Road


A 26-year-old Aspen resident was killed Saturday morning after he lost control of a motorcycle on Lower River Road, authorities said Sunday. Ahmed A. Hadi was believed to be driving the motorcycle and at an excessive speed when he lost control while driving in the upvalley lane of Lower River Road.
