Aspen Valley Hospital taps Terry Collins as interim CEO

Terry Collins, chief financial officer at Aspen Valley Hospital since 2004, has been named the medical facility’s interim chief operating officer.

The hospital’s board of directors, which appointed Collins, announced the news Monday to staff members. Collins steps in after CEO Dan Bonk, citing a need to be with his family in Wisconsin, announced his retirement last week.

The process for identifying a permanent CEO has not yet been determined by the board.

“First things first,” board member Barry Mink said in a statement. “Now that we have an interim CEO, we can discuss the recruitment process. This discussion will occur at our next board meeting in February.”

Finding a permanent CEO, which has a salary range of $250,000 to $300,000 and benefits, will take six months to a year, Mink previously told The Aspen Times.

Collins holds a bachelor’s degree in psychology and accounting as well as a master’s degree in business administration. Prior to becoming CFO at the Aspen hospital, Collins worked at hospitals ranging from small, rural facilities to large, tertiary medical centers. He is currently a faculty member in the Graduate School of Business at the University of Utah.

“I am honored to have been asked to serve in this role,” Collins said in a statement. “I have worked for a number of hospitals in my career, and this is the finest I’ve ever been affiliated with. The quality of the staff and leadership team, and the commitment to outstanding patient care, are the things that have kept me here for over a decade. I look forward to working with the board and staff until a permanent CEO is identified.”
