ASPEN Aspen Valley Hospital is considered one of the most sophisticated small hospitals in the country.AVH is a 25-bed community hospital that represents the best of two worlds the warmth and friendliness of a small town, and the technical expertise of a major medical center.Although orthopaedics and sports injuries are a primary focus of AVH, a full range of services is offered. AVH has board-certified specialists in 25 different fields of medicine.AVH has a state-of-the-art emergency department with 100 percent of the physcians board-certified specialists in emergency medicine. The hospital has a level III trauma center, an immediate-response ambulance system, an FAA-approved helipad, and a diagnostic imaging department with CT scanning, MRI, mammography equipment, nuclear medicine, state-of-the-art ultrasound, and a digital connection to Denver.AVH also is equipped with a 24-hour lab and blood bank, physical therapy services, three birthing rooms, a three-bed intensive care unit, fully-supported, state-of-the-art, digital operating rooms (inpatient and ambulatory), and outpatient specialty clinics (neurology, gastroenterology, oncology, urology, rheumatology, allergy, and pulmonology), as well as a cardiopulmonary rehabilitation program.AVH is fully accredited by the Joint Commission on Accreditation of Healthcare Organizations, and is affiliated with VHA (a nationwide organization comprised of nonprofit community hospitals), and the Aspen Valley Medical Foundation. Many patients travel to AVH for elective orthopaedic care, just as skiers travel to the community for recreation. Thats because orthopaedics is AVHs specialty.Orthopaedic services/sports medicine orthopaedic surgeons at AVH have earned world-wide acclaim for their expertise in orthopaedic care. Clinical research, conducted through the Aspen Foundation for Sports Medicine, has helped AVH to devise better treatment regimes, and, at the same time, reduce the patients length of stay in the hospital. Clinical research conducted at AVH includes sport-specific injury analysis (skiing, snowboarding, and cycling), and techniques for the care of knee and shoulder injuries. Research findings have been reported in major medical journals and at academic conferences throughout the world. In addition, AVH physicians have traveled with elite Olympic athletes, serving as consulting physicians for U.S. teams.Orthopaedic Associates of Aspen and Glenwood have three clinics located throughout the Roaring Fork Valley, as well as five satellite clinic locations in Snowmass Village, Telluride, Silt, Rifle and Eagle.
