Aspen under snow advisory

Aspen Times Staff Report
Aspen, CO Colorado

ASPEN ” Fresh on the heels of a snowstorm that left up to 21 inches of new snow on local slopes late last week, Aspen is under a snow advisory Sunday night and Monday morning.

Sunny skies Sunday morning gave way to clouds and blustery winds Sunday afternoon in Aspen, and a Pacific storm is expected to move into western Colorado Sunday night, bringing snow accumulations of 5 to 10 inches, according to the National Weather Service. The storm center is expected to track across northern Arizona and New Mexico.

The snow advisory remains in effect until noon on Monday. Strong southwest winds of 15 to 20 mph, with gusts to 35 mph will result in blowing and drifting snow on Sunday, the weather service warned. Winds are expected to shift to the north and northeast and decrease overnight.

A slight chance of snow remains in the forecast for Aspen/Snowmass on Monday night, Tuesday and Wednesday, though partly sunny skies are expected by Wednesday, according to the weather service.

The storm that blew into Colorado on Thursday night and lingered into Friday afternoon left 21 inches of new snow at Snowmass and Aspen Mountain.
