Aspen to introduce updated rates for charging stations
Starting Jan. 1, the city of Aspen will introduce updated rates and policies for its electric vehicle (EV) charging stations.
These changes will apply to both Level 2 and Level 3 chargers, with new overstay fees designed to maximize the efficiency of Aspen’s EV charging infrastructure.
Aspen manages 15 EV charging stations across the city, including 11 Level 2 chargers and four Level 3 DC fast chargers, offering 25 plugs. Key updates effective in the new year include:
- Level 2 charging rates will increase to 30 cents per kilowatt-hour (kWh).
- Level 3 (fast charging) rates will rise to 60 cents per kWh.
To encourage timely use of chargers, overstay fees will also be introduced:
- Level 2 chargers: A fee of 25 cents per minute will apply after four hours of use.
- Level 3 chargers: A fee of 25 cents per minute will apply after two hours of use.
- Overstay fees will not apply overnight from midnight to 8 a.m.
These updates include any applicable parking fees at EV charging locations. The city advises drivers to plan their charging sessions accordingly. For more information, visit aspen.gov/919/Electric-Vehicles.
