ASPEN ” Aspen will celebrate with New Year’s Day fireworks on Thursday after canceling a pair of fireworks displays on Wednesday night.

The scheduled New Year’s Eve fireworks on Wednesday were called off after much of the downtown core was evacuated in response to bomb threats. Fireworks will instead be shot off over Aspen Mountain on Thursday at 8:30 p.m., the city has announced.

The city had scheduled two fireworks displays on Wednesday night ” one at 8:30 p.m. and one at midnight ” but only one display is slated Thursday. There was no word on whether or not spectators will be treated to all the pyrotechnics at once on Thursday, since there were enough to provide two displays on New Year’s Eve.
