Aspen to decide on new mayor today
Today is Election Day in the city of Aspen, with a single item on the ballot: the runoff for mayor featuring Councilmen Steve Skadron and Torre.
Polling places will be open from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Voters are asked to go to the same location where they voted in the May 7 general election. Those who still aren’t sure about where to vote can call 970-925-5000.
Voters in Precincts 1 and 3 must vote at the Rio Grande Meeting Room, located between Galena Plaza and the Pitkin County Jail. Voters in Precincts 2 and 4 must vote in the conference room on the west side of the Red Brick Building on East Hallam Street. And voters in Precincts 5 and 7 should go to the Pitkin County Health and Human Services Building (also known as the Schultz Building) off Castle Creek Road adjacent to Aspen Valley Hospital.
There are 4,453 city voters defined as “active,” meaning that they participated in the past two presidential elections. Voters are asked to bring a form of ID to the polls, such as a valid Colorado driver’s license or U.S. passport. Other forms of identification also are acceptable, such as bank statements and utility bills, as long as they are recent and bear the name and address of the voter.
