Aspen SummerFilms series set

ASPEN – Aspen Film and the Aspen Music Festival will co-present the SummerFilms series, with film screenings through the season at Paepcke Auditorium.The series opens July 5-6 with “Every Little Step,” a documentary about the 2006 revival of the Broadway hit, “A Chorus Line.” The film mirrors the story of the musical by delving into the lives of the performers auditioning for the production.The Mexican comedy “Rudo y Cursi,” which reunites the actors Gael Garca Bernal and Diego Luna with the screenwriter Carlos Cuarn from “Y Tu Mam Tambin, shows July 12-13. “Afghan Star,” an Afghan film about an “American Idol”-type TV show, is set for July 19. The film earned directing and audience awards at the Sundance Festival.The Oscar-winning “Departures,” a drama about an unemployed Japanese cellist struggling with his new career, will be screened Aug. 2-3. “Summer Hours,” a French family drama starring Juliette Binoche, is scheduled for Aug. 9-10. The series concludes Aug. 16 with “Herb & Dorothy,” a documentary of a New York couple of modest means who over four decades built a mind-boggling art collection.All films in the SummerFilms series begin at 8 p.m. For further information, go to aspenfilm.org.
