Aspen Skiing Co. sets dates for next ski season

Aspen Times staff report
Aspen, CO Colorado
Janet Urquhart/The Aspen TimesSkiers gather for another run this week at Aspen Highlands, the one local ski area that remains open. Next winter's season will run from Dec. 10 through April 22.

ASPEN – OK, so the 2010-11 ski season isn’t technically over since Aspen Highlands is open through April 24. Nevertheless, the 2011-12 dates are out for skiers and riders already dreaming of making turns next winter.

Aspen Highlands will again remain open the latest, according to Aspen Skiing Co. spokesman Jeff Hanle. Highlands will be open from Dec. 10 through April 22.

Aspen Mountain and Snowmass will be open Nov. 24 through April 15.

Buttermilk, as always, will open late and close early. Its season is Dec. 10 through April 8.

“I think that’s pretty firm,” Hanle said of the dates.

The Skico sets the dates at this time of year because its various departments are working on their budgets for the next fiscal year and need to account for the length of the season in their planning.
