Aspen Skiing Co. Environment Foundation grants $115K

ASPEN – Grants totaling $115,000 were given to 15 nonprofit organizations for environmental programs or special projects by Aspen Skiing Co.’s employee Environment Foundation, according to an announcement this week.

The foundation is supported by voluntary contributions from Skico employees. Contributions also came from Aspen Community Foundation, Aspen Skiing Co.’s Family Fund and Green Mountain Coffee Roasters.

The recipients and their dollar amounts are:



• Aspen Center for Environmental Studies, $7,500.

• American Whitewater, Upper Colorado River Project, $5,000.




• Clean Energy Collective’s Clean Energy Future campaign, $5,000.

• Citizens for a Healthy Community – North Fork Valley Community Alternative Campaign, $10,000.

• The Colorado Fourteeners Initiative, Maroon Bells Trail Reconstruction, $12,632.

• Fat City Farmers, Roaring Fork High School yard and agricultural biology program, $8,850.

• Habitat for Humanity, energy efficiency heating upgrades for new ReStore, no-interest loan of up to $10,000.

• Lower Valley Trails Group, “facilitate building” pedestrian and bike trail west of Glenwood Springs, $6,000.

• Roaring Fork Outdoor Volunteers, funding for youth program, $7,500.

• Roaring Fork Conservancy, equipment for water quality volunteers, $2,985.

• Roaring Fork Food Policy Council, general operating support, $5,000.

• Third Street Center in Carbondale, air sealing of the quad and Long Hall, $9,765 including no-interest loan of $4,765.

• Western Colorado Congress, Gasfield Justice Program, $10,000.

• Western Resource Advocates, reform Colorado oil and gas development rules, $5,000.

• White River National Forest, Wilderness Ranger intern program, $10,000.

The loans to Habitat for Humanity and Third Street Center for energy-efficiency projects are a new approach for the foundation. The projects will result in cost savings for the organizations, allowing them to repay as the savings accrue.

The Environment Foundation has donated $2 million to 390 projects since its creation.
