Aspen schools warn against athletics poster scam
The Aspen School District is warning valley residents to be alert to scammers trying to fraudulently sell space on an Aspen High School athletics calendar, according to a statement.
If representatives ask any local businesses to advertise in the calendar, make sure they ask that checks be written only to the Aspen School District, the statement says. If they ask that checks be written to another entity, it is a scam, according to the statement.
Only the AHS Booster Club produces the athletics posters, and only the booster club or the Student Athlete Leadership Team sells the advertisements. Funds raised from the sale of the posters support Aspen High School athletics, the statement says.
