Aspen School District announces changes to bus routes for 2016-17 academic year
The Aspen School District has made major changes to its school bus route for the 2016-17 academic year.
In an email to parents and community members on Wednesday, Aspen School District bus driver Reghan Mahaffey said that the transportation department worked on consolidating their bus routes “to improve safety and to clean up the convoluted directions.”
Mahaffey later told The Aspen Times that changes to the school bus routes also are to stay up-to-date with the Colorado Department of Education’s transportation requirements and to save money.
She said that the majority of school bus route locations and times are different this year and strongly urges parents to check the new bus schedule.
Mahaffey said the most significant changes are to the town routes.
Another major change to the new route is that there are no school bus stops on Main Street.
The three bus stops that were on Main Street last year are now located on quieter nearby streets, Mahaffey said, in an effort to improve the flow of traffic and also keep children and drivers as safe as possible.
