Staff report

The Forest Service and the Roaring Fork Transportation Authority will resume summer scheduled bus service to the Maroon Bells Scenic Area beginning Saturday. Motorized travel on Maroon Creek Road is restricted from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. During those hours of bus operations, vehicle access to the Maroon Bells is limited to vehicles carrying handicap persons, children in car seats, and campers.

Bus tickets are $6 for adults ages 17 to 64, $4 for seniors 65 and older, and $4 for children 6 to 16. Kids younger than 6 ride for free. All tickets are $3 on Wednesdays.

The first bus leaves Aspen Highlands at 9 a.m. with 20-minute service until 2:30 p.m. and then 30-minute service until 4:30 p.m. The last bus up to the Bells leaves at 4:30 p.m., and the last bus down f is at 5 p.m. Bus tickets may be obtained at several locations including RFTA’s Rubey Park Transit Center and Aspen Highlands Village at the Four Mountain Sports store.

The Forest Service advises purchases of the Maroon Bells Annual Pass. The $25 pass is valid for one year. It will allow motorized access to the Maroon Bells during non-bus hours, and allows ridership on the bus to the cardholder.
