Aspen Portraits

Mary Eshbaugh Hayes

It was really a locals’ night recently when photographer Jim Paussa opened his exhibit of portraits of Aspenites at L’Hostaria restaurant. The photo exhibit will hang at L’Hostaria until the restaurant closes for the offseason, Sunday, April 18. They say, “Free food for everybody” closing night.

Jim did an exhibit of Basalt personalities last year that hung in Basalt. Tiziano Gortan, owner of L’Hostaria in Aspen, had seen the Basalt photographs and asked Jim to do the same kind of show with Aspen people, and to hang the exhibit in his restaurant. Everybody photographed for the show came to the opening in late March and admired their portraits as well as all the others.

Personally, I thought the portrait of music man Ray Adams was the best. I hope that the Basalt and the Aspen exhibits will be combined and shown again together. Many Aspen photographers also came to the exhibit to see what Paussa had created.

I want to get all the photos of all the locals in. Since the paper is small because of offseason, I will save items until next week.

Undercurrent … The blessed offseason is here!
